Yellow happens to be my favorite color.
When I was younger my mom taught me the emotions that each color represents and I resonated most with yellow because it represents joy (if ya haven't hearrrrrd) and celebration! So obvi I had to incorporate this color into the first week of our season premiere of the Real!!
I had mad fun with this dress because it originally didn't fit me well. If anybody knows me... I'm as thick as a stick and have oh..like zero curves. However, I make sure to celebrate the areas that I do like!
I discovered a really cool trick with tailoring today when altering this dress to suit my shape, those areas you see on the side are usually what seamstresses cut OUT after alterations in order to shape the rest of my body. Well as you know I love curves and have zilch hips, so I thought to myself, "Self..why cut the extra trim off the side of this dress when it gives me the illusion of the hips and hourglass I love?" I've learned that this external rim of edge is called a "flange". Well guess what I flanged the freak out.
(Another tip: rather than also altering my sleeves to be shorter, I usually roll them up to achieve a wider shoulder angle, which balances the new hips, and makes the waist smaller. Yaaaaas.)
With every look, fit is key, and you must lead first with your height and shape, otherwise things start to look, for lack of a better word... Ridiculous.
Let me know if you like this dress now because I love it! And for anybody who has wanted a little hippage like me? Catch that flange fever baby.
